About Derek
Derek is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and a licensed telehealth provider in South Carolina (#1878). He works with adults and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, stress, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Derek has particular experience supporting individuals in high-responsibility roles, including healthcare professionals, first responders, military and law enforcement personnel, cancer survivors, and those working in high-expectation environments.
Derek approaches therapy with warmth, curiosity, and respect for each person’s lived experience. His style is collaborative and person-centered, helping clients feel supported while also working toward meaningful and sustainable change. He believes therapy is most effective when clients feel understood, safe, and empowered.
Derek holds an M.Phil.Ed in Professional Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania and has additional doctoral-level training in molecular and cellular developmental biology. This interdisciplinary background allows him to bring a thoughtful, systems-informed perspective to emotional health, stress, and resilience.
He integrates evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, and neuroscience-informed interventions. Treatment is tailored to each client’s goals, strengths, and needs.
Derek is committed to creating a supportive, inclusive, and affirming space for clients across diverse backgrounds. He views therapy as a space for reflection, growth, and reconnection with one’s values, and feels honored to walk alongside clients as they work toward greater balance and well-being.
